Eco-Green and Friendly

We have built our studio with green glasses. What I mean is we are using green friendly products as much as financially possible for our entire operation. Much of the green waste from the products we use is being composted. We currently have two 20ft x 32in composting bins, and room to add more if necessary. We recycle back through our wholesaler any boxes used for product delivery. When this is not possible we use our recycling bins which accept cardboard, paper, glass, and plastics. Our city offers a bi-monthly pick-up of these items.

We chose T8 Fluorescent ceiling light fixtures. These lighting fixtures and bulbs cut the electric load 42 percent, according to the energy analysis at E Source. In our accent lighting we utilize the new energy smart CFL bulbs whenever possible.

The cooling units for the studio itself are newer energy efficient models. These units are programmable in two ways, to reach a certain pre-selected temperature and hold that temperature using an energy saving mode and the ability to set hours of operation for the units. We can set these units to turn off when not needed and to turn on before anyone arrives at the studio thus saving energy.

Our cooler was installed with a compressor that uses R404A refrigerate which is more environmentally friendly than say the R22 compressors. The main difference between R404a (HFC refrigerant) and R22 (HCFC refrigerant) is that the latter has more ozone damaging potential than the R404a. This is due to the fact that HCFC contains chlorine which was removed on the HFC refrigerants. Therefore, R404a is more eco-friendly than R22. Our cooler keeps our products at a good 34 degrees and this helps to increase the vase life of our flowers.

Our goal is to continue to add energy efficient components in every way possible, to use as many eco-green friendly products as possible, and to recycle, reuse, and repurpose as often as we can. We will soon be testing a recently discovered product that may extent the need to weekly wash and disinfect our flower storage buckets. Thus saving the over use of water, soaps, bleach and employees time. Our flower storage buckets (those kept out of the public view) are repurposed from a shop in town that receives their product in these containers and then has no other use for them. We like to encourage our customers to recycle by dropping off, at the studio, any vases or floral containers they have received and which they are not planning on reusing in exchange for discounts on their flower purchases.
